Historic photo SPACE1 AIO rocket fairing |
The fairing acts like a nosecone for the rocket, and shields the cargo, avatars, and contents.
The historic recoverable rocket payload fairing has numerous functions - designed to protect the Avatar, and additional major contents such as the Rocket Space Telescope, the cherry red sportster payload test, and a host of other items launched into space.
When the rocket returns to the Earth, the strength of the fairing absorbs impact and helps protect delicate containments, especially on designed streamer flights where reentry comes in hot. The fairing is either attached to the rocket, nose cone, and/or additionally tethered, along with reentry devices. SPACE1 is using one large fairing for Super Rocket, that will decouple and jettison out from the rocket first stage at the apex of Tropospheric space, though will remain attached by a lengthy tether. Upon landing, the fairing is designed to spring flex an amount to absorb the impactual forces. The fairing is manufactured from recyclables and the cost is primarily for labor and constructive techniques.
