The cooperation may involve a SPACE1 Safety Rocket inside Starship that launches an Augmented Human to the surface of Mars as a safety precursor to colonization. Consider a hypothetical yet potential situation. SpaceX has a Starship in orbit around Mars for the first manned landing. While still in a martian orbit, the hatch opens and out pops a manned SPACE1 Safety Rocket, sent down to the surface first.
The mission is safe, preliminary, exploratory, manned, a precursor to the colonizing volume of people about to go down to Mars and begin construction of a new world.
Like a safe probe, the SPACE1 rocket speeds to the planet's surface, and the first human will send back the data needed to help ensure the safety of the entire "awaiting for departure" colony.
