Space1 Rocket Retractor

Space Shuttle Discovery Rocket Boosters floating in the ocean 150 miles offshore northeast of Cape Canaveral are wrapped in capturing, towing, and holding tethers. Both boosters were towed back to Hangar AF at the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station.

The Rocket Retractor maintains physical connection with the rocket after launching, and serves as a simple means to retract and recover the rocket without loss.

The Rocket Retractor is a mechanical automatic dispensing spool that operates by gravity, catchment, and the positional connection to the Earth. It can be used over and over again. As the rocket is launched, the Rocket Retractor automatically unrolls an extremely long length of almost weightless carbon-like high tech high tensile nano constructed microscopic tether. After the rocket returns to Earth, the tether is automatically rewound on a spool core and ends in the result of rocket retrieval. The (RR) is currently best suited for tests and to ensure there are no lost rocket components.

The repeatable RR works especially well in the ocean where rocket retrieval is as simple as the comparison of reeling in a fish. As the SPACE1 Safety Rocket has natural tank oceanic buoyancy, the system works effectively.
