The cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova, a former textile worker, became the first woman in space as her spaceship Vostok 6 reached Earth’s orbit.
The purpose of her flight was “to continue the study of the effects of various space-flight factors on the human organism, including a comparative analysis of these factors on a man and woman,” as The New York Herald Tribune reported on June 17, 1963.As of July 2016, of the 537 total space travelers, 60 have been women. There was one each from France, India, Italy, South Korea, and the United Kingdom; two each from Canada, China, and Japan; four from the Soviet Union/Russia; and 45 from the United States.
Space1 space tourism is open to men, women, families, and children, of all ages, genders and cultures. So far, the space suits are not designed for pets.
